An 80-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a van while using a crosswalk in Capitol Hill Sunday afternoon, police said.

Multiple people called 911 at 4:45 p.m. Sunday with reports of a hit and run that happened in Capitol Hill. Citizens on the scene began performing CPR on the 80-year-old woman, according to police. An off-duty Seattle Police Department (SPD) police officer was nearby at the time and assisted with performing CPR.

Police said witnesses at the scene of the crash saw the woman using a crosswalk when a black van hit her.

The woman was crossing East Madison Street while the driver was turning from northbound 22nd Avenue to westbound East Madison Street, and was last seen continuing in that direction.

The woman was walking at the time of the collision, according to police.

The crash blocked westbound and northbound lanes on E Madison St at E Denny Way for a short period of time.

The injured woman has been taken to Harborview Medical Center by Seattle Fire Department medics, police on Monday said she died from her injuries.

SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is investigating and no arrests have been made.
