LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - Five adjacent homes were damaged by fire overnight in a Lake Stevens neighborhood, and fireworks are to blame, Lake Stevens Fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 9500 block of 17th Street NE, at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of smoke billowing from a home there.

Tall flames were shooting from one of the homes as first responders arrived. The blaze spread to a second home and damaged a third before crews could extinguish the flames. In all, firefighters said five homes suffered varying degrees of burns, with overall damages estimated at $1 million.

No one was injured in the fires, but three people in the most heavily damaged homes have been displaced.
