FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Federal Way High School went into lockdown Monday after a student brought a stolen gun to class.

The 16-year-old boy was showing off the gun to other students, and one of them promptly reported it to school staff, Federal Way police said.

The school went into lockdown as police officers came to the building to search for the student. The lockdown was lifted about 45 minutes later when officials determined the student left the high school. Nearby Todd Beamer High School also went on lockdown as a precaution.

A Federal Way police officer later found the student at his home and also recovered the gun, which turned out to have been stolen.

The boy has been booked into King County Juvenile Detention for investigation of bringing a dangerous weapon on a school campus.
