1 dead, 1 injured in head-on crash involving semi in Fife

    FIFE, Wash. -- A man is dead and a woman riding with him was injured in a head-on crash in Fife early Tuesday morning.

    The two were riding in their minivan along 70th Ave. East around 5 a.m. when the driver crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a semitruck head on, according to Fife Police.

    The 30-year-old driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene. A 25-year-old woman in the passenger seat was taken to a local hospital. The extent of her injuries was not given, but Fife police said she was expected to survive.

    The driver of the semitruck was not injured.

    Investigators are still looking into what caused the minivan driver to veer into oncoming traffic. The road is closed between 20th Street East and Pacific Highway East for the crash investigation.

    The victim's name has not been released.
