Thousands attend Chaffetz town hall, outside crowd turns to protest when doors close

(KUTV) Thousands of people turned up to Brighton High School in Cottonwood Hights, Utah, to attend a town hall with Rep. Jason Chaffetz.

The school's auditorium, with a capacity of 1,100, couldn't hold the crowd so those outside, many with signs, stood and chanted instead.

Inside those who were seated were chanting to let other in and social media seemed to show empty seats. The Cottonwood Heights, Utah, fire marshal took the stage before Chaffetz entered and said it was his decision to close the doors.

The crowd was vocal in support public lands and the Bears Ears National Monument and sometimes cheered or booed over Chaffetz. Mentions of President Trump also brought boos.

Outside Brighton High School, the crowd took up chants like "Chaffetz is a coward." Inside, chants of "do your job" rang out. Chris Jones has the story on video above and below is some of the content gathered from people on the scene with social media.
