Edmonds Community College on alert after 2nd sex assault

LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Students at Edmonds Community College are on high alert once again after reports of yet another sexual assault on campus - the second one this month.

The alert issued by Campus Safety and Security says a woman was assaulted Wednesday just before noon on a walkway between Lynnwood Hall and Snohomish Hall.

According to the report, the victim was forcibly fondled by a suspect who walked directly up to her, reached out and grabbed her chest. The victim was able to get away in the direction of Mukilteo Hall.

The suspect, who got away, is described as a dark-skinned man about 5-feet-7-inches tall and thin. He was wearing a black sports style hat, black shirt and black large headphones. The victim said he was not known to her.

It was the second sexual assault on campus in the past 2 1/2 weeks.

In the previous incident, on May 2, a victim was attacked at about 11 p.m. while walking alone in parking lot "E," right in front of the main entrance to the campus and just yards away from a dormitory.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries in that assault, and police say the attacker may have been left covered in blood. He remains at large.

In the aftermath of the two assaults, campus officials are warning students to be aware, choose well-lighted routes after dark and avoid waiting alone at bus stops.

Anyone with information about either attack is urged to call Lynnwood police at 425-670-5600 or campus security at 425-754-0154.
