County Council OKs new Snohomish County sheriff

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Snohomish County, Wash., County Council has approved the appointment of Ty Trenary as the county's new sheriff.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports the 47-year-old Trenary is a captain at the sheriff's office, where he's worked since 1991. The new sheriff also served from 2008 to 2012 as police chief for Stanwood, which contracts with the county for police services.

The council voted Monday.

The previous sheriff, John Lovick, was appointed by the council June 3 to replace Aaron Reardon, who resigned as county executive.
