Gray, wet Seattle winter inspires song

In case you haven't stepped outside since early September, it's been a typical gray and rainy winter around Seattle. But as spring arrives Monday without much more in the way of sunshine, a songwriter in Kitsap County decided to capture winter's essence in music.

Marilyn Kay wrote this song "Cloudy Day Blues", with a little inspiration from Steve Pool.

"The line in the song about 'What's the poor weatherman supposed to do?' is written with (Pool) in mind," she wrote in her email.

      The lyrics are posted below:

I get my 'D' from a bottle cause I'm livin' in the great Northwest
There's not much sun to saturate my body with its Big D Best
So weekly I swallow my little green pill
It's what my doctor says I need
Too bad I'm not a plant, we got the rain to make healthy weeds.

Give me a day of sun, I'm tired of the clouds
We're the Evergreen State, but give us a break... For cryin' out loud
Don't mean to whine and moan - but that's what we do
When we don't get our Vitamin D and we get those cloudy, rainy day blues.

Some people jog and some ride a bike
To keep the rainy day blues away
Some people drink - some hop in their big RV and drive away
Most of us just hunker down
And put up with the drips and the puddles and wait
If you've lived here awhile you know the sun is gonna shine some day

Give me a day of sun, I'm tired of the clouds
We're the Evergreen State, but give us a break... For cryin' out loud
Don't mean to whine and moan - but that's what we do
When we don't get our Vitamin D and we get those cloudy rainy day blues.

And then we'll have a day of sun...it's hot - when's it gonna rain?
Gotta save our water -- keep Washington green. Don't water your lawn today
What's the poor weather man supposed to do?
Flip a coin in the morning...for sure it will change before noon.

Give me a day of sun, I'm tired of the clouds
We're the Evergreen State, but give us a break... For cryin' out loud
Don't mean to whine and moan - but that's what we do
When we don't get our Vitamin D and we get those cloudy rainy day blues.

      Thanks Marilyn!
