Not that this is prime time for climbing Mt. Rainier, but if anyone was brave enough to venture up Wednesday morning, they might as well have been climbing at the South Pole.

The National Weather Service said conditions at Camp Muir -- about 10,100 feet up and 4,000 feet below the summit, reported a temperature of 8 degrees at 5 a.m. Friday morning with a slight breeze of 60 mph wind gusts.

That calculates to wind chills around -20F -- and on par with what was going on at the South Pole Wednesday morning.

Of course, the South Pole is nearing the start of their summer, so that's probably nearing paradise for them!
