Ryan Yamamoto is a two time Emmy award reporter who joined the KOMO News team in June of 2016.
Yamamoto previously worked in Sacramento where he spent nearly 16 years as a Weekend News Anchor, Reporter and Sports Anchor. During his time in California’s Capital he covered a diverse range of topics from the Ted Kaczynski “Unabomber” trial, California wildfires, the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, three World Series, the Super Bowl in New Orleans and NBA Championships.
His journalism career began in Columbia, Missouri after graduating from San Francisco State in 1994. He went on to Pocatello, Idaho as a Weekend News Anchor, before landing in Sacramento in 1998. He started his sports career in San Diego in 2005 and continued as a Sports Anchor in Sacramento, before returning to news in 2015.
In June of 2016, Yamamoto became a first time filmmaker by directing and producing a documentary on American Olympic weightlifter Tommy Kono. The film aired nationally on local PBS stations.
Yamamoto is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. He grew up a Raiders, Oakland A’s, and Golden State Warriors fan. He now calls Seattle his home, along with his wife and golden retriever “Chuey”. In his spare time you can find him exploring the Pacfic Northwest sampling seafood and craft beer, and training in Muay Thai kickboxing.
