With the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics right around the corner, a lot of people are looking to buy a new TV to better enjoy all the action. If that's you, you're in luck. The weeks leading up to the Super Bowl happens to be a great time to buy a TV, especially a larger-size set.
“An analysis we did a year or so ago, showed that after Black Friday, the second best discounts for TVs came two weeks before the Super Bowl. Prices dropped an average of 22 percent, thanks to Super Bowl promotions,” said Jim Wilcox, Consumer Reports senior electronics editor.
Don't be afraid to go with a 2017 model, if it saves you even more.
“Basically, 2018 is a year of incremental improvements, not big technology changes. So you can save money by buying a leftover set and you won't miss out on any major improvements,” Wilcox told me.
If you don't need a TV right now, Consumer Reports says the next best time to get a deal is in March, when stores want to clean out the old models to make room for the new ones.
By the way, in most cases, if you buy a big screen set, it's going to be 4K.
