(KUTV) The sign popped up this afternoon, in Roy, Utah, and instantly people began talking.

"Shock, complete shock," says Nathan Peterson, who lives across the street from the sign. He says the red painted statement on the garage door, is loaded with racial animosity.

The sign on Kade Rogers door reads: "Make America Great Again, Purge and Purify."

Rogers says the sign is just part of his Halloween decorations.

He says the phrase is just a homage to the horror film trilogy, "The Purge." The most recent episode is called "The Purge: Election Year." The tagline of the film is "Keep America Great."

Rogers, who is a Trump supporter, says although the movie was the inspiration for the decorations, he knows it has a double meaning and would spark controversy.

"I kind of knew it was going to happen (controversy) but it's my right, it's not racist. I'm not meaning to be racist, in no way, in fact, I have a black friend. His name is Isaac," Rogers said.

Rogers says he didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but he says the decorations are staying up, "I'm a Republican, I am a supporter of Trump, this is all Halloween decoration, I didn't mean to offend anybody, but I'm not taking it down either way."

In a video posted on his Facebook profile, Rogers says, "Apparently I'm getting a lot of heat for it for being racist. In no way, shape, or form am I racist, at all. I believe we all bleed the same color. It doesn't matter what color you are, as long as you're a patriot."
