Police: Suspect in AMBER Alert case taken into custody

Beckley police said the suspect in an AMBER Alert kidnapping case in Raleigh County has been taken into custody.

Lawrence Edward Asbury III, 20, is now in police custody, according to a Facebook post on the Beckley Police Department's Facebook page.

Earlier on Thursday, police said the girl that Asbury is accused of abducting Wednesday from a Walgreens Pharmacy in Beckley, Jaddah Rodgers, 16, was found safe.

Beckley police said they have found a girl who was being sought in an Amber Alert kidnapping case in Raleigh County.

Police said Jaddah Rodgers, 16, was found safe Thursday in the town of Raleigh in Raleigh County. The man police said abducted Rodgers, Lawrence Edward Asbury III, 20, is still on the loose, and multiple officers are still searching for the suspect. They believe he is in the Glen Morgan area near C&O Shop Road.

Police said Asbury kidnapped Rodgers about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Walgreens Pharmacy on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Beckley.

The 1995 red Chevrolet Blazer Asbury and Rodgers were believed to be traveling in was recovered by investigators about 2 a.m. Thursday in Raleigh County.

Beckley police have issued new photos and details on the appearance of a man who police say kidnapped a teenage girl from a pharmacy in an AMBER Alert case.

Police said Lawrence Edward Asbury III, 20, kidnapped Jaddah Rodgers, 16, about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Walgreen's Pharmacy on Robert C. Byrd Drive.

Asbury is 6-feet tall and weighs 190-pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, police said in a Facebook post.

Rodgers is a black female who stands 5-feet-4 inches tall and weighs about 115 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt and braided hair. Asbury is described as a white male.

Police believe Rodgers is in extreme danger.

No one was inside the vehicle, dispatchers said.

AMBER Alert officials said Rodgers was assaulted by a man, believed to be Asbury, and forced into a vehicle. A warrant for kidnapping charges has been obtained for Asbury, WVVA-TV said.
