Mylan issues nationwide recall of EpiPens due to possible defect
Meridian Medical Technologies, the company who manufactures Mylan's EpiPen injector, has issued a voluntary, nationwide recall of its EpiPen and EpiPen Jr.
According to the company, some of the devices possibly have a defective part that doesn't allow for the activation of the injector in case of allergic reaction. The company said the number of reported failures was "small," but they decided to pull the products for fear of a life-threatening risk if a severe allergic reaction went untreated as a result.
The recall affects 13 lots of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. devices distributed between Dec. 17, 2015, and July 1, 2016.
Any of the affected devices will be replaced by Mylan for free.
Customers are advised keep and use their EpiPens, if needed, until their replacements are received
