Yelm High School lockdown ends; no weapon found at school
YELM, Wash. -- A lockdown at Yelm High School Wednesday has ended. The lockdown was instituted after administrators received a report that a student might have a gun.
Yelm police were called just after 8:30 a.m. and went to the high school and detained a student.
The student had posted a photo of himself with what appeared to be a pistol, police said.
Witnesses told police that the student and a second student were arguing that morning. Witnesses thought a gun was mentioned, and school officials were alerted.
The student admitted to posing for a photograph while holding a BB gun. He denied taking it to school. The gun was found at his home.
School officials say the high school was searched and no gun was found.
The student received an emergency expulsion from the school.
The school and police determined the lockdown could be lifted at 10:20 a.m.
