State troopers responded to the scene at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles.
A preliminary investigation found that the woman, identified as Pamela C. Bone, 56, of Sumner was heading west in a 1991 Nissan Sentra when she crossed the center line into the eastbound lane of the highway.
She crashed head-on into a 2000 Ford F250 pickup approaching from the opposite direction.
The pickup rolled over once and came to rest on its wheels. The Nissan came to rest in the westbound lane.
Pamela Bone was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup, a 62-year-old Bonney Lake man, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the collision. It was not immediately known why the woman's car crossed the center line.
