Speed and driver impairment were factors in the crash, said WSP Trooper Guy Gill.
State troopers responded to the scene, Highway 507 just south of Vail Cut-Off Road, at about 1:35 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash and fire.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was heading north at high speed on the highway, when he veered off the roadway, rolled over and crashed.
The man barely managed to escape from the vehicle as it caught fire and burst into flames.
The driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to recover. He faces a possible charge of DUI after he is released.
"He's incredibly lucky he survived the collision," Gill said.
