Woman struck and killed by yard truck in Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. - A woman was struck and killed by a truck Monday near a busy Bellevue intersection, police said.

Police responded to the scene, in the 12400 block of NE 12th Street, at about 12:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious accident involving a truck and a pedestrian, said Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue police.

Iafrate said the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a yard truck as it was traveling south on 124th Avenue NE and turning west on Bel-Red Road.

The victim may may have been dragged for a ways after she was hit.

"We don't know if she was in a crosswalk because where she was starting and where she ended up might be two different places," Iafrate said.

Officers at the scene said there was no indication that the truck driver was impaired.

Iafrate said the intersection of 124th Avenue NE and Bel-Red Road will be closed for several hours as the investigation continues.
