Woman killed in crash with tree near Spanaway

SPANAWAY, Wash. -- A woman was killed Wednesday morning when she crashed her SUV into a tree near Spanaway.

The woman was speeding northbound on 22nd Avenue when she went through a stop sign at 152nd and crashed her Ford Expedition into a tree, said Det. Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car on impact, Troyer said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person in the car.

Police are still investigating the crash.
