Woman found dead with gunshot wound on Burke-Gilman Trail
SEATTLE - Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 26-year-old Renton woman, after she was found dead with a gunshot wound early Friday morning along the Burke-Gilman Trail.
The King County Medical Examiner Office identified the woman as Jowanna Gooden, and say she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
A passerby called police around 4:30 a.m. after spotting the body in the 2400 block of North Northlake Way, and officers arrived to find the body.
A man who was walking his dog in the area shortly after midnight said he heard a loud bang like a firework.
"It sounded like an M80, or loud firecracker," Terry Ladd says. "But, that just seemed strange; it's not anywhere near the Fourth of July or New Year's."
Neighbors say the area is full of walkers, joggers, and cyclists during the day and early evening, but the traffic thins out after dark.
At the moment, police do not believe this was a random murder, and believe the victim may have known her attacker.
