Woman found dead in Lake Stevens; homicide probe launched

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. - The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office has launched a homicide investigation after a young woman was found dead Monday in West Lake Stevens.

Deputies responded to the scene, a home in the 9200 block of 12th Street SE, just after 9 a.m. after receiving a 911 call.

A woman in her 20s was found dead at the home, and it appears she died of "homicidal violence," said Jeff Brand of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

After finding her body, officers exited the residence and are now waiting for a search warrant.

The victim's name has not been released, but neighbors say the woman who lived in the home had a 2-year-old daughter and had just moved into the home at the end of May.

"She was a very beautiful, sweet woman," said Millie Smith. "You'd walk by and she'd be like, 'Hi, how are you?' Very friendly."

Smith said she noticed police walking outside of the home with gloves on.

"It's all fenced off and they said they were investigating and we just knew," Smith said. "It's kind of scary. Makes you want to cry, because she was so young. And now someone lost their daughter and their mom."

Brand did not give any other details about the murder but says investigators are pretty confident it's not related to the recent Molly Conley homicide.

"We want to follow every possible lead, get any possible information we can as quickly as we can," Brand said.
