Woman charged with funding terrorists arrested in Kent
KENT, Wash. -- A 44-year-old woman charged with funding a Somalian terrorist organization was arrested in her Kent home Wednesday, according to the Department of Justice.
Hinda Dhirane faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and 20 counts of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
According to the Department of Justice, Dhirane was one of the leaders of al-Shabaab's fundraising efforts in the United States, Kenya, the Netherlands and Somalia.
She reportedly directed a network of women making monthly payments to al-Shabaab, which is leading a violent insurgency in Somalia, according to the Department of Justice.
Along with Dhirane, two other people were arrested in Virginia and the Netherlands Wednesday.
