Woman, 75, dies in Maple Valley fire

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- A woman died Friday after smoke and flames engulfed her home early in the morning, according to a King County fire investigator.

The woman's husband knocked out a window and was able to get out, but his wife was unable to escape.

The cause of the fire is pending until the results of the autopsy on the 75-year-old woman are released, said Kyle Ohashi, a spokesman for the Kent Fire Department.

The fire broke out about 3:30 a.m. at the home in the 18000 block of 196th Avenue SE where neighbors say an older couple live.

Officials said the woman did not have a pulse when firefighters pulled her from the burning home. The performed CPR and were able to revive her. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
