Wildfire closes section of I-90 in central Washington

VANTAGE, Wash. -- The Washington Transportation Department says a roughly 20-mile stretch of Interstate 90 in central Washington has been closed in both directions Tuesday evening due to a brush fire that jumped containment lines.

The closure stretches from Kittitas to the Vantage Bridge.

Earlier Tuesday, westbound traffic in the area was temporarily closed due to the fire, which began when a motor home caught fire near the Ryegrass rest area.

The motor home was completely destroyed, but none of the five people on board were injured, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Darren Wright.

The highway later reopened, but troopers closed it again when the fire flared up at about 8:30 p.m., Wright said.
