Washout closes road to popular trail, adds extra miles for hikers
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- Hikers, backpackers and campers will need to plan ahead and expect a longer trip if they want to make it to Blanca Lake this summer.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says Forest Service Road 63 is closed to vehicles with no estimate of when it will reopen.
That road leads to the Blanca Lake Trailhead and the North Fork of the Skykomish Trailhead Complex. The road is closed approximately 1 mile past the junction of Forest Service Road 63 and Forest Service ROad 65. Heavy roadway and hillside washouts are causing the closure, and as a result, the San Jaun and Troublesome Creek Campgrounds are not accessible.
Hikers wanting to reach Blanca Lake should be aware this closure adds an extra 4 miles round trip to their hike.
The Sheriff's office says be aware of the closures, make a plan and be prepared for the extra distance before you go.
