TUKWILA, Wash. - A woman was pronounced dead after she was pulled from her burning apartment Monday morning in Tukwila, emergency officials said.

Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 5700 block of South 152nd Street, at about 8:05 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire at the Hampton Heights Apartments, said Marty Grisham, emergency manager for the city of Tukwila.

Smoke and flames were coming from one unit in the building when crews arrived.

Fire officials said an elderly woman was found inside the apartment. Firefighters extricated her from the building, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The blaze started in the bedroom of the woman's apartment, and crews were able to douse the flames before they could spread much farther.

Neighbors said they heard a smoke detector going off and alerted others to get out of the building.

One family in another unit is temporarily displaced due to the fire.

No foul play is suspected. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
