The women -- both in their 50s -- pulled up to a red light at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Graham Street at roughly 6:15 p.m.
As they waited for the light to turn green, police say two unknown men walked over to the car and pepper sprayed the women.
Before the men could get inside the car, the driver hit the gas and sped away through the red light. Luckily, the woman made it through the intersection without hitting any other cars.
The carjackers took off running southbound on Graham and the victims pulled into a nearby convenience store to call police. Medics treated the pair for exposure to pepper spray, but they were otherwise uninjured, according to police.
Officers searched the area but were unable to find the carjackers. Police have not released a detailed description of the men.
