Man kills two women in Lacey, then flees from cops with kids in car
LACEY, Wash. -- Police said a man shot his estranged wife and her mother in Lacey Monday afternoon, then took the couple's two young children with him and sped off.
He eventually shot himself after being followed by police.
Police were alerted just after 4:30 p.m. about a report of a man with a gun at 5928 Crimson Court S.E.
Cmdr. Chris Ward with the Lacey Police Department said the man went to the home and shot his wife and her mother. A 51-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. A 31-year-old woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Police said the husband then took the two small children and left, fleeing police.
Police say the man fired shots at them as he drove. But police, understanding that there were children in the car, did not return fire, Ward said.
The man took police through Tumwater and into Olympia, where he shot himself at a car dealership.
Tara Frost, a next door neighbor, said she saw police come to the house and handcuff the husband just a few weeks back.
"They had some problems that I know of and they had their incidents, before but I never thought this would ever happen," Frost said.
The 32-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he is in critical condition.
. Police said the children are safe and were not hurt.
"It's really sad, especially for the kids," said Juliann Vermillion, another neighbor.
