Two wildfires covering 6,000 acres in Bend force hundreds to evacuate
BEND, Ore. - Firefighters battling two fast-moving wildfires northwest of Bend have built preliminary containment lines on two sides of the blaze.
Crews hoped the containment lines would hold through hot and windy weather Sunday.
Two blazes, first spotted Saturday afternoon, quickly grew to more than 6,000 acres.
About 250 homes remain under an evacuation order, and authorities say another 2,000 are in an area considered threatened.
Fire information officer Lisa Clark says there's no estimate for when the fires will be contained.
Crews were focusing on preventing the fire from spreading east and south toward homes, and on protecting the City of Bend's water supply to the west.
