The U.S. attorney's office in Seattle says 60-year-old James Postlehwaite was convicted in November of 2012 on conspiracy to distribute marijuana.
Postlehwaite's sentence is part of a larger investigation into a drug smuggling ring operating between the two countries. Two dozen people in the U.S. and Canada have been charged in the case, with seven sentenced to prison.
Prosecutors say the investigation into the drug ring began in 2010. The ring was transporting between 1,000 to 2,000 pounds of marijuana as well as 100 to 200 kilograms of cocaine every month.
Authorities say Postlehwaite's semi-truck had hidden compartments to transport the drug. He was taken into custody March 2012.
