Troopers say Mario X. Charles was driving south on I-5 near DuPont Sunday evening and would not stop when a trooper attempted to pull him over. Charles then exited at Martin Way, but crossed the gore point, lost control and struck a motorhome, troopers said.
Charles stopped on the offramp's shoulder but when the trooper got out and approached the car, Charles went into reverse and tried to strike the trooper, investigators said.
The trooper pulled out his gun and fired one shot that struck the back of the car, investigators said.
Charles continued south on Martin Way but when he attempted to make a left on Marvin Road, struck a pickup truck, troopers said.
Charles was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail for investigation of hit-and run, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, DUI, assault and felony eluding. The booking log shows Charles had at least one prior conviction for driving under the influence in the past 10 years.
The trooper was not hurt, but a passenger in the mobile home was taken to St. Peter's Hospital. The extent of the passenger's injuries were not known.
