Trees falls on truck near Sultan; driver seriously injured
SULTAN, Wash. - A 50-year-old man was flown to Harborview Medical Center on Tuesday morning after a tree fell on a truck he was driving, and rescuers had a harrowing time trying to get him to safety.
Shari Ireton of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. near milepost 8 on Sultan Basin Road.
Rescuers had to free the man from the truck. He was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Ireton said.
The Sheriff's Office said several other trees have also came down in the area. Trees fell next to their emergency vehicles, sending the first responders scrambling.
The road was closed because of high winds, unsafe conditions and the accident investigation. It will be closed over night near milepost 7 at the Onley Creek Bridge. Crews weren't able to clear all the hazards and downed trees.
Ireton said some loggers are working in the area.
