Trooper lets driver rear-end patrol car, turns out woman was having medical emergency
BOTHELL, Wash. -- A Washington State Patrol trooper was among those involved in a series of crashes Friday afternoon on both sides of Interstate 405 near state Route 527 near Canyon Park.
The State Patrol said about 4:45 p.m. the trooper noticed a driver drifting side to side in the northbound lanes of I-405 in his rear view mirror.
They said the trooper sensed something was wrong so he slowed down and purposely let the driver rear-end him so they could pull to the side of the road.
Turned out the woman behind the wheel was having some sort of medical emergency.
She was taken to the hospital. The trooper was not hurt.
In a second crash, four to five cars were involved in the southbound lanes of 405.
There were injuries but they are not life-threatening.
And a third crash occurred on the northbound lanes involving two cars in the backup from the trooper crash. There were no injuries.
All three crashes happened on a stretch of 405 between Bothell and Lynnwood.
