Thieves steal car, taunt victim on Facebook: 'It's heart-wrenching'
LONGVIEW, Wash. -- A Longview man said thieves stole his car and camera equipment, then taunted him about the theft on Facebook.
Bobby Oliver said the thieves posted a picture of his stolen items on his Facebook page and wrote a note about it in the comment section.
"I just couldn't believe somebody would have the audacity to do that," said Oliver.
Oliver said photography is his "life, outside of work" and he has worked for two years to use his photography to show Longview in a different light.
He said he was shooting pictures and video at a business in downtown Longview late last Wednesday night and decided to stay even later and take pictures in the downtown area.
He said he returned to his car, which was parked in the lot behind Guse's Gourmet Coffee, but could not find his keys and believed he had lost them during his walk.
He went to search for his keys, but said when he returned to his car at about 6 a.m., it was gone, along with about $4,000 worth of photography equipment and more than a thousand irreplaceable original images he had taken.
"It's heart-wrenching. I almost feel like crying right now," said Oliver. "It's just like losing a part of me, a little part of me that's gone."
Oliver said he called police, then made his way home and went to bed.
He said his roommate later woke him up to say that someone had posted on Oliver's Facebook page as Oliver himself. Even worse, it was a picture of his stolen items.
The page shows a friend of Oliver commenting below the picture, asking, "Did u get ur stuff back?"
Oliver said the thieves then responded with a comment of their own, saying, "No we got his stuff just saying thanks."
"It's extremely mean," said Oliver. "Why? I just don't understand it. That's the only thing I would like to be answered at this point. Why rub it in my face?"
Longview Police said the car has now been found, but the items inside are still missing.
"I just wish I could get my stuff back," said Oliver. "Please give it back."
