Thief arrested after allegedly assaulting deputy

STANWOOD, Wash. -- A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a semi truck then assaulting a deputy, Snohomish County Sheriff's officials said.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon when deputies got a call of a car prowl in progress, that turned out to be a theft of a semi tractor-trailer outside Stanwood, said Shari Ireton with the sheriff's office.

A deputy later spotted the truck stopped in Stanwood and approached the suspected thief, Ireton said. That's when the thief jumped out of the cab and assaulted the deputy, then ran off.

Several units and police dogs searched the area for the thief, and he was eventually captured at Church Creek Gulch and Jensen Road, Ireton said.

The deputy had just some minor injuries and Ireton said and didn't require hospitalization.

"The area is safe, and the bad guy's in custody," Ireton said. "All in a day's work."
