The incident unfolded early in the morning in the 600 block of North Pine Street when the homeowners heard someone banging on the front door of their house.
The homeowner went downstairs and told the person to go away, but the suspect continued banging on the locked front door and trying to open it.
At that point, the homeowner looked through the peep hole but did not recognize the man who was pounding on the door. The homeowner again told the intruder he had the wrong house and to go away, but the intruder would not leave and continued trying to get in the house through the door.
The homeowner checked the door and felt that it was about to be broken open, so he armed himself and fired a single shot through the door, hitting the suspect.
Police and medics responded to the scene, and the suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The homeowners then left the home.
