SUV crashes into fence, catches fire in Central District

SEATTLE - An SUV crashed through a fence then burst into flames just a few feet away from a home in Seattle's Central District early Thursday, police report.

The occupants of the vehicle scattered and fled the scene as firefighters responded and extinguished the flames.

The owner of the home, in the 500 block of 27th Avenue, tells KOMO News he was in bed asleep at about 2 a.m. when he was awakened by a loud crash.

He looked out and saw the SUV into his fence. He was unhurt.

"I saw a bunch of people scatter when they heard the sirens," he says.

Police are still looking for the owner of the SUV.
