Person shot by deputies in Des Moines dies

DES MOINES, Wash. - A person of interest shot by King County deputies in Des Moines late Friday night has died.

Police believe the person was connected to deadly car prowl confrontation at Beaver Lake Park in Sammamish on Wednesday in which a Seattle Police officer's son was killed.

Authorities initially referred to the person as a suspect, but later referred to him as a homicide person of interest.

Authorities shot the person just after 10:30 p.m. near S. 216th St. and 29th Ave. S. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

After the shooting, the person was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

A second person of interest at the scene escaped but was found and arrested by deputies early Saturday morning.

Two guns were recovered from the shooting scene, Sgt. Cindi West with the King County Sheriff's Office said. One was from the person of interest who was shot. The other was dumped by the second person of interest who fled the scene.
