Suspect arrested after allegedly hitting woman, fleeing with kids

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A 30-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday in Bellingham after intentionally hitting the mother of his children with a car then fleeing with their kids, resulting in an hours-long standoff with police, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

According to police, William Young hit the victim with his car around 5 p.m. Tuesday near Sedro Woolley, where he lives. He then reportedly took his 3-year-old and baby and drove to the victim's residence in the 1100 block of Franklin Street in Bellingham.

Young, who was wanted on a number of warrants at the time, was possibly armed with knives and had said he would not surrender and intended to fight his arrest, according to police. He reportedly has a history of fighting with police and has demonstrated unstable behavior in the past.

A SWAT team responded to the residence, and Young was finally arrested shortly after midnight Wednesday. Neither child was harmed during the incident.
