Super Bowl provides perfect diversion for Seattle coat heist

SEATTLE -- A historic and decisive Seahawks victory in the Super Bowl was apparently just the diversion a thief needed in order to make off with nearly a dozen coats from a Ballard home, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report for the incident, a married couple were watching the big game on the second floor of their home in the 5600 block of 28th Avenue Northwest on Sunday afternoon.

When a friend came over to join the party around 4:30 p.m., the husband forgot to lock the front door behind them.

Toward the end of the game, the husband heard noises coming from the first floor and went to investigate, finding approximately 10 coats missing from the coat rack near the door.

One of the missing jackets reportedly had $1,300 cash inside of it.

Officers were unable to respond to the burglary until the following day due to the large number of 911 calls coming in immediately after the Super Bowl.
