Student airlifted after being hit by truck

SILVERDALE, Wash. -- A 17-year-old girl was hit by a pickup truck while walking her brother to school on Wednesday morning.

Kitsap County sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson said the teen was in a crosswalk when she was hit about 7:15 a.m. in front of Fairview Junior High.

She suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she was listed in serious condition in the intensive-care unit.

"She's got a good team around her... that will do the best they can for her and help her overcome this trauma," said hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson.

The driver who hit the girl stopped at the scene and was being interviewed by deputies, but Wilson said the circumstances of the collision are still under investigation.

Wilson said the girl who was hit is a student at Olympic High School. Her brother was not injured.
