State OKs DelBene for lame duck Congressional seat

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The Washington secretary of state's office has notified Congress that Democrat Suzan DelBene is the apparent winner of an unusual short term created by the resignation of Jay Inslee to run for governor.

Although results won't be official until Dec. 6, the secretary of state's letter clears the way for DelBene to be sworn in for the lame duck session that begins next week.

In addition to filling the remainder of Inslee's term, DelBene won the election to replace him in the 1st Congressional District, which after redistricting spans suburban King County to the Canadian border in Whatcom County.

DelBene is a former Microsoft executive who defeated Republican John Koster.
