Speeding car slams into pole on MLK Jr. Way; driver injured

SEATTLE - Police say a driver was speeding when he lost control and crashed into a pole in South Seattle early Thursday.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and S. Henderson Street, at about 12:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.

The 25-year-old driver was extricated from the car, an orange Nissan 350Z, and taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The car was totaled in the crash.

A preliminary investigation found that the car was traveling above the speed limit on southbound Martin Luther King Jr. Way when the driver lost control and slammed into the pole.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police say.
