Spanaway family searches for dog taken from stolen car
SPANAWAY, Wash -- A local family is searching for their 2-year-old dog after it was taken by car thieves.
The part Chihuahua, part Yorkie mixed breed dog was inside April Doidge's black Honda Civic when the car was stolen out of a Walgreen's pharmacy parking lot on Pacific Avenue.
"I just started crying, because Chanel was in the car," said April Doidge said.
Police recovered the car less than two days later in a parking lot in Federal Way, but Chanel was nowhere to be found. The address of the parking lot was not made available.
"That's the hardest part. She's such a good dog. I don't want her to be mistreated," said Doidge.
It appears the thieves were out for a joyride, officials say. The thieves took part of the car stereo, some clothes in the trunk, and the spare tire.
"I'm just shocked and saddened by it," Doidge said. "The circumstance makes me really angry."
The family put up bright posters in the area of the pharmacy, and where the car was found in Federal Way. They've also taken their search online - posting under lost animals on Craig's List and Facebook.
Doidge has also called every vet between Spanaway and Federal Way, and also checks in with the Human Society daily. So far there's been no word of Chanel.
"I'm going to keep searching for my dog, and hope that somebody brings her home," said Doidge.
Chanel weighs 12 pounds, has blonde fur, and is very friendly. Anyone with information is asked to contact the KOMO Problem Solvers.
