The crash happened on Beach Drive East and Watauga Beach Drive East in Port Orchard at roughly 5:30 p.m., according to Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.
Wilson said a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2000 Honda convertible when he came upon a curve in the road, lost control of the car and slammed into a utility pole.
It took an hour from the time of the crash for emergency workers to remove the girl from the car and get her air lifted to Harborview Medical Center. As of Friday night, her condition was listed as critical.
The driver wasn't seriously injured, but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Investigators don't believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, but witnesses said the boy appeared to be speeding.
