Sleeping woman says she was attacked by intruder with knife

SEATTLE -- A Rainier Beach resident has been hospitalized after a stranger armed with a knife broke into her home Wednesday morning and stabbed her, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to police, the victim was sleeping in her apartment in the 4500 block of South Henderson Street shortly after 6 a.m. when the man stabbed her. It is unclear how the man got into the victim's apartment.

The victim was reportedly able to fight the man off, possibly cutting him with a box cutter in the process.

According to police, the victim, who apparently did not know her attacker, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the man. King County Metro believes the man may have boarded a bus at 46th Avenue South and South Henderson Street and gotten off at Rainier Avenue South and South McClellan Street.
