Renton's Rainier Ave. North to reopen later Friday after sinkhole repairs
RENTON, Wash. - Rainier Avenue North in Renton is expected to reopen later Friday after a two-day closure to repair a deep sinkhole, emergency officials said.
A small hole opened up in the pavement on Wednesday, but the sinkhole underneath the roadway turned out to be much bigger than it appeared from the surface.
The repairs, in the 900 block of Rainier Avenue North, have turned out to be quite extensive. Crews worked around the clock and were finally about ready to repave the affected section by late morning on Friday.
A detour around the area has been set up until the roadway is ready to reopen.
