Sheriff's office: Kelso boy, 13, accidentally shoots, kills friend
KELSO, Wash. — A 13-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his friend, another 13-year-old boy, on Saturday, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office.
The boy called 911 at about noon to report that he had accidentally shot his friend. Arriving deputies and medics couldn't save the boy's friend, and he died at the scene.
The sheriff's office said there were no adults home at the time of the shooting.
Deputies said the boy told them that he thought the gun was unloaded.
Deputies said the boy was very distraught. They are hoping to interview him in the near future to get more details about what happened.
The boys had been friends for quite a while, deputies said.
The Cowlitz County coroner identified the victim as 13-year-old Edgar Vazquez of Kelso.
The sheriff's office said Vazquez spent the night at his friend's home in the 1500 block of Carroll Road, which was where the shooting occurred.
