Sheriff: Driver arrested after passenger killed in crash
LACEY, Wash. -- A 28-year-old man suspected of drunk driving has been arrested for vehicular homicide after crashing his Jeep near Lacey Monday night, killing his passenger, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Ryan Cughan was driving in the 7600 block of Thru Lake Drive Southeast outside of Lacey shortly before 8:30 p.m. when he crashed his Jeep. The 49-year-old man riding with him in the Jeep was killed.
Cughan was arrested three hours later, treated at the hospital and booked into Thurston County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide. Deputies believe Cughan was driving under the influence of alcohol, but the results of his blood sample are still pending.
In court Tuesday, Cughan was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
