The victim, identified as Daryl M. Ford, was apparently homeless. Detectives are asking for help identifying where he may have frequented or camped in the Seattle area, said Drew Fowler of the Seattle police.
A 46-year-old man was arrested last Friday in connection with the killing. He is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail for investigation of homicide.
The victim, who died of multiple stab wounds, was found in a shopping cart in the 4000 block of South Austin Street on Thursday morning.
Witnesses said they confronted a man who had been pushing the cart down a street last Thursday. After the man walked away, the witnesses saw the body, under a pile of clothes with just the feet sticking out.
"I saw the body, it's covered in blankets and sheets, there were bugs all around it," said one witness who called herself Hodan. "He or she been dead for a couple days - because it looked like an old body."
